Each year, the SRPC’s Nominations and Awards Committee hosts a rural essay contest for medical students and residents. The winning essays will be featured on our website and considered for publication in the Canadian Journal of Rural Medicine (CJRM).


Prizes

  • Students: $500
  • Residents: $1,000
    The award amount will be credited toward the cost of attending the 33rd Annual Rural and Remote Medicine Conference, taking place April 16–18, 2026, in Quebec City.
    Eligible costs include registration, travel, accommodations, and social events.

Please ensure all essays are anonymous to protect confidentiality.

  • Students: Submit a self-reflection from your rural medicine elective.
  • Residents: Submit a self-reflection from your experience in rural medicine.

  • Non-fiction essay
  • Length: 500–1000 words
  • Format: Microsoft Word
  • Deadline: December 31, 2025
